Evelyn the Unicorn
Kia Ora ! Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend ! This lockdown one of Jacks friends (my youngest wee one) turned 3 ! After a few weeks in lockdown already with only grocery stores open, therefore not much choice in presents for the wee girl, her Mumma reached out to me. To me our kids don't have many days of the year they get to celebrate themselves so birthdays are important ! Also with Emelia getting thrown into an impromptu birthday lockdown the day before her birthday two weeks before, I know all too much of the disappointment lockdown birthdays cause ! So as our gift I designed this wee Unicorn so she would have something to open on her birthday! Just look at all the ringlets !! I just wanted everyone to be able to make Miss Evelyn for all those wee girlies that deserve her, so I decided to publish the pattern here for all your wonderful people. I do apologise for the lack of photos though, I was in such a rush to actually gift this that I didn't get a chance to take lots. Hmmm maybe that's an excuse to make more ! |
Materials
1 ball of White 8 ply cotton yarn
Small amount of 8 ply colour for hoof details
Small amount of 8 ply gold/yellow yarn for the horn
Small amounts of coloured 8 ply cotton yarn for mane and tail
3.0mm Hook
Embroidery needle
Black thread/yarn
Stuffing
Any size yarn and corresponding hook will work, I used a 8 ply cotton yarn and a 3.0mm hook. It is recommended to size down in hooks for a tighter stitch for amigurumi. Colours can be suited to your own preference. My unicorn sat at around 20cm. The thicker the yarn, the bigger your unicorn !

Assembly
1. Sew arms to top of the body being wary of the hoof direction
2. Sew head to body
3. Sew horn to head on top of the head beginning at approx. row 11
4. Attach ears to top of head with equal distance from the horn, my placement was 4 stitches on either side of the horn but just make sure it looks equal distance from the front of your unicorn.
5. Embroider eyes in appropriate places
6. Add legs in appropriate place for a sitting position being wary of how the hoof sits
7. Mane pieces can be placed from the inside of the ears & around the side & back of the horn
8. Attach tail pieces to the back of the unicorn at approx. Row 12
9. I added holding stitches to my arms & legs so they stayed in the best position
Great Work ! Your Unicorn should now be ready for lots of magical adventures ! Enjoy !
