DIY Lego Gift for Dad !

Crafting with Kids - Lego Gift for Dad

Kia Ora

Unfortunately this years fathers day didn’t go exactly as planned, we couldn’t get anywhere to purchase dads fave things! Lockdown for us meant we had to find a gift for Dad using what we had in our home. However I think this years present was probably the best one we’ve given! How cool does this Lego picture frame look! I’m going to talk you through how we did it!

Firstly we gathered lots of Lego ! If your crafting along with us, you can use any Lego colours you have! The kids at first really wanted all blue for the letters DAD, but fate (the Lego box) had different views & so we went with a mixture or blues & greens. if you don’t have the exact number of pieces you can use different sizes to add up to what's needed! For example 2 2x2 squares can be used instead of an 2x4 rectangle, We did exactly that as you can see in the photos!

For the I this is what we used

4 X 2x2 Squares

4 X 2x8 Rectangles

For the ❤ this is what we used

3 X 2x2 Squares

1 X 2x4 Piece

1 X 2x6 Piece

1 X 2x8 Piece

3 X 2x10 Piece

2 X 1x2 Rounded edge pieces

2 X 2x2 Slanted Pieces

For the letter D we used

4 X 1x2 Pieces

2 X 5x2 Pieces

1 X 2x2 Square

1 X 3x2 Piece

1 X 3x2 with a rounded edge

1 X 2x2  with a upside down slant

For the letter A we used

8 X 2x2 Squares

2 X 6x2 Pieces

Then we made another letter D using the same as above. if you don’t have the exact number of pieces you can use different sizes to add up to what's needed! For example 2 2x2 squares can be used instead of an 2x4 rectangle.

We then used 2 rows of flat double row pieces to connect the letters together. The photo frame has 2 rows of  7 X 4x1 pieces as the columns, we were able to slot the photo between the columns. For the photo we couldn’t get to a photo store so we just used our printer to print a photo onto a piece of paper & cut it to shape. We then added a double row top to the top to give the column sides some structure. It was Izzy's idea to then add more 1 row pieces in the space behind the photo & some flat 1 row pieces to the top & bottom of the photo to help keep it in place.

That’s it ! It was a super simple DIY present that looks super cool !

Happy Crafting !
